Becoming Unique Through Education

To frame options, to choose one and not to regret over the chosen option, that is what I attribute for the education I have so far. As the saying goes,” What you learn is only the size of your fist, what you haven’t is the size of the world”, we all learn from the lessons our life and its people associated teach us, but when it comes to making decisions, you win if you are wise, and education makes you one. I am Priya Rajkumar, and I am proud to say that I chose to be a homemaker, leaving behind the fat chance of being a professional. I come from a family, which does not appreciate the idea that women can go heights, but it neither refuses the idea of educating women. My father, with the single earning of a being a shroff in a bank gave all his three girls doubles degrees. I, being the eldest, have three. It was a long way from under-graduation to M.Phil, but there was no looking back or regrets.

I studied, I lectured, I excelled in both, but my father and my husband expected me to be a homemaker, raise children of good mental and physical health. I never have felt that expectation to be humiliating or pessimistic. That awareness is what I think my education has given me. When someone else asks me, “You own a degree in Physics, and you are cooking and wasting your time?” I never regret it. Instead I shrug it off and move on, because, I take pride in whatever work I do. I teach my children to make wise choices, to look for opportunities, to be creative and to be honest. I cook, I decorate my home, I socialize with people, and I make my family smile. When I sense a pride and curiosity in the eyes of my second grader when I come up with a creative plot for a story, or when I make a sensible suggestion for any of my husband’s problem, I feel happy that my education has helped me to think better.

Now, I own a blog, a place to unleash my creative talent, I have also heard from people that I tend to write something unique, thanks to all my teachers, who chiseled whatever talent I had. I have plans to start a cookery blog in future, too. Today, my father wonders on reading my blog posts. My college mate and friend, tells me that she finds me newer, each time, on reading a post.

Education gave me uniqueness. It made me creative, confident and courageous. So whenever there is a need for, I develop options, I choose from it, I plan and execute. No going back, no regrets, and I owe it to the Education that framed every part of me.
