A Thousand Years Into The Future [POEM]

a thousand years into the future
Written by Arunima

A thousand years from today, into the future, when everything in nature is controlled by man through a simple dial – what will life be like?

The pink light streams through my window,
Reflecting a sunset I have never seen,
I reach out to touch the wisps of dust,
Riding on the lightbeams,
Only to find nothing…

I breathe in the winter fragrance,
Alstonias and roses fill my head,
I wait for the headiness,
Intoxication of my senses,
Only to feel nothing…

I look up at the sky,
A vast umbrella of silver and pink,
Hiding the plastic sheets behind it.
A thirtieth century blanket,
Engulfing all those who live within its walls.

I look down upon the book that lays open,
Telling me tales of a time unknown,
Unseen, unimaginable…
Sighing, I turn to the little bedside dial
And set it to a summer night.
