Time for a Change!

Written by Priya Raj

“A perfect prey”, he mumbled to himself.  He thought that the coffee shop would be the perfect place to befriend her and went to her smiling. His smile was contagious, his demeanor appealing, his attitude so influencing that she, without showing a sign of refusal, got acquainted to the handsome six-footer. Every time they got together at the coffee shop, he would stare into her face, his eyes getting hooked upon the big mole on her forehead.

“A big mole in the center of her forehead, that too having a hair in it, should suggest you that the girl has intuitive powers and go for such a girl”, the words lingered in his heart.

“Why are you staring at me like this?” she would ask him blushing.

“Your mole… that makes you look special, you are unique!!’ he would reply to her, holding her hands in a way that would elite all her spirits.

All his romantic deeds and persuasive talks were so assuring for her that she believed him to be his soul-mate, the lover of her life, whom she is supposed to dedicate her life to. So when he asked her to run away from her house, she happily packed her suitcase. He had told her that he wanted to take her to his favorite place, and after spending the night there would begin their life happily. Neither did she ask him what the place was nor did she have an idea of what it would be. But when she realized that he led her to a junglesaying that it was his most favorite place, she was stupefied. It seemed to be a horrendous place where there were tall sky grazing trees, a rampaging waterfall sliding into a shining river, the distant roar of the lions and the buzzing of the insects left her spine-chilling, despite all her reassuring effects.

He held her tightly close to him saying that the dawn would mark the beginning of their new life, and that being enough to shed her fears away, she was again drowned into emotions of happiness and pretty dreams.

It was not hard for him to make her believe what he said, she ate what he gave and gulped whatever he gave her to drink, and the moment which he had anticipated came through quickly and effortlessly.

The moment she slid her eyelids, he set up a seance, performed prayers, uttered mantras, called his predecessors and the atmosphere took a terrific outlook. Finally he took an iron rod and slashed her head away. Her head flung away from the body, blood dripped from the slit neck and he was jubilating in high spirits that his offering would make him the invincible King of the darkness.

Within moments, there was a terrible thunder, lightning and the jungle seemed to appear much more dreading. He was in soaring spirit that he never noticed the decapitated body getting joined to the head and with a strong force, SHE rose from the water. Her face was unusually illuminated, and with an atrocious howl and tremendous force, she tore him into pieces.

Heaving violent breaths, in a valiant voice she finally spoke,” You moron… Dancing to death? I am a renegade. I was waiting for someone, who would in pursuit of befriending me, especially exhilarating my mole!! The reigning of fools is over…Now; it’s time for a change!!” .

The leaves of the Oak tree of the dark gloomy jungle reverberated in harmony.
